ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's polo team rallied in the final minute and then claimed its sixth win of the year to top the Central New York Polo Club 14-13 on Friday evening at the Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red improved to 6-8 on the year with the win and snapped a two-game skid in the process.
CNY established itself early by taking a 4-1 lead after one chukker.
Emma Eldredge,
Shariah Harris and Anna Ullmann started for the Big Red and gathered itself after the first and turned the tide in the second by outscoring CNY 6-1 to take a 7-5 lead into the half.
Hannah Noyes replaced Ullmann in the second half and the Big Red increased its lead by one to 11-8 after three. CNY caught its second wind and came all the way back in the fourth to take the lead at 13-12. Cornell tied it up with a minute to go and both teams had opportunities to end it but the game went to shootout. Noyes scored in her turn at the shootout and CNY never tallied so Cornell came away with the victory at 14-13. Eldredge scored seven goals, Harris had three and both Ullmann and Noyes scored once.
The Big Red returns to action when Harvard visits Oxley on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m.
