ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's and men's polo teams tuned up for USPA Nationals with wins in their final regular season home games this past weekend, the women defeating Garrison Forest 19-7 on Friday and the men topping Hemlock Hill 16-10 on Saturday evening at Oxley Equestrian Center. The women improved to 9-11, while the men improved to 15-3.

On Friday evening, fresh off their Regional finals match, Hannah Noyes, Emma Eldredge and Shariah Harris came out hot and built a 7-0 lead after one. Garrison Forest found its offense in the second and matched the Big Red in the chukker with four goals to send the game to the half with Cornell up 11-4. Anna Ullmann replaced Noyes in the second half and Cornell stretched its lead by the end of the third to 16-5. The Big Red cruised home in the fourth to gain the win. The match enabled the Big Red to work on some key strategy points that will be necessary at Nationals. Eldredge tallied seven goals, Harris scored six, Noyes tallied four and Ullmann had one.

The following evening the men took on Hemlock Hill in final preparations for their trip to Santa Barbara. Dan Shaw, Liam Palacios and Liang Liang Feng started for the Big Red and fell behind 3-2 after one. Ignacio Masias and Lorenzo Masias with Ryan Saul took over in the second and stormed ahead by outscoring their opponents 9-1 to take an 11-4 lead into the half. Hemlock Hill fought back in the third to close the gap to  11-9 after three chukkers, but Cornell regrouped for the fourth and pulled out to the 16-10 win. Lorenzo tallied seven goals, Ignacio had four, Shaw scored three and Saul tallied two for the Big Red.  

Cornell will find out its opponent at USPA Nationals this week for the tournament that begins on April 3.
