SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The women's soccer team started off its season with a 3-0 loss to Syracuse on Thursday at SU Soccer Stadium. Junior goalkeeper
Meghan Kennedy made eight saves.
Kate Donovan scored twice for Syracuse (3-1-1), which got on the board with a penalty-kick goal from Taylor Bennett in the 23rd minute. Donovan's first goal then doubled the Orange's lead just 63 seconds before halftime.
Donovan's second goal came off a corner kick early in the second half to close the scoring.
Cornell (0-1) had one on shot on goal in the contest, with senior co-captain
Kaylee Fitzgerald forcing Syracuse goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan to make her lone save of the night. The Big Red is now 0-9-2 all-time against the Orange.
Cornell returns to Ithaca for its home opener at 11:30 a.m. Sunday against Eastern Washington.
