ITHACA, N.Y. -- Each year, the William S. Field Invitational brings together some of the nation's top polo teams, and the 2018 edition is no different. Featuring eight matches over the next four days, Cornell will compete against Kentucky, Skidmore and Virginia to claim the title.
The Big Red women kick off the tournament on day one as the second game of a doubleheader, with Kentucky and Skidmore playing on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. Immediately following, the Big Red will square off with Virginia. Cornell has already played and beaten both Kentucky (12-8 on Oct. 19) and the Thoroughbreds (17-6 on Oct. 26), but has not played the Cavaliers, a perennial national rival. Cornell is 5-2 overall and 3-1 at Oxley this season and will attempt to win the Field Invite for the second straight season after topping Skidmore and Virginia a year ago. The consolation match will be played on Friday at 4 p.m., with the championship match on Sunday at 11 a.m.
The Cornell men will put a 6-1 record on the line when it opens with Kentucky on Friday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. The Wildcats handed the Big Red its only loss of the year, a 13-11 contest in the first round of the UVa Fall Tournament on Oct. 18. The second semifinal will be played at 78 p.m. on Friday between Skidmore and Virginia. The consolation match will be Saturday at 4 p.m., with the championship at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
