ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's polo team fell into an early hole and couldn't climb all the way out, dropping an 11-10 contest to the Central New York Polo Club on Friday evening at Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red will head to the national championships with a 16-3 record.
Central New York jumped out to a 3-0 lead and was up 3-1 heading into the second chukker. A defensive battle continued, with the visitors earning a 5-4 lead heading to the break. Both teams scored four goals apiece in the third leading setting up a back-and-forth final chukker that ended with two more for each team, snapping Cornell's 14-match win streak.
Cornell will open up play at nationals in Santa Barbara, Calif. when it meets Virginia on Wednesday, April 3 at 4 p.m. PT.
