ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's and women's polo teams both are eyeing national titles when they travel across the country to compete in the 2018 USPA Collegiate national championships held at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club in California. The Big Red women kick off the semifinal action when they meet Virginia on Wednesday, April 4 at 7 p.m. ET, with the men facing either SMU or Western Ontario the following day at 5 p.m. ET. The championship games are set for Saturday, April 7 at 3 p.m. ET (women's) and 5 p.m. ET (men's).
At 16-3 and winner of 14 of its last 15 games, the Big Red won its 24th regional title in program history. The women have won 15 national titles and have advanced to the national title game in six of the last seven seasons with championships in 2011, 2015 and 2016. Head coach David Eldredge, in his 33rd year directing the program, sports a 518-146-17 (.773) record.
The Big Red men stand at 15-3 and are 13-1 in their last 14. Cornell will be eyeing the program's 12th national title. Eldredge has a 470-185-8 (.715) record in his 33 years on the sidelines for the Big Red, including 31 straight appearances in the finals of the Northeast Regionals and 15 consecutive trips to nationals, as well as the 2005 USPA collegiate national title.
