Rooney Homers Twice, But Softball Swept At Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Cornell softball team couldn't hold down the big bats of Bucknell, as the home team swept a Thursday afternoon doubleheader at Becker Field with 12-6 and 12-4 victories. The Big Red fell to 8-14, while the Bison improved to 14-18.

Bucknell had four innings with at least four runs in sweeping the doubleheader, posting 28 hits in the two games. The Big Red had 15 hits and scored 10 runs in the two games.

Game One
Sophomore Bridgette Rooney homered twice and teamed with Madeline Avery to drive in six runs in a 12-6 defeat.

Rooney was 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, while both Megan Murray and Erin Rockstroh had two hits apiece. Avery drove in three runs with a bases-clearing double.

Cornell took the lead with a solo homer by Rooney in the second, only to watch the Bison score four in the bottom of the inning. Cornell answered back with four more in the third to go up 5-4, but it was all Bucknell the rest of the way. The home team plated six in the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Julienne Egofske and a two-run triple by Maddie Minneci.

Game Two
Erin Rockstroh stayed hot with a pair of hits and a two-run single in the fifth, but Bucknell used a five-run second and a six-run fourth to run away with a 12-4 win in five innings.

Rockstroh extended her hit streak to nine games with her sixth multi-hit game during the stretch. Hillary Dole drove in her first career run with a bases loaded walk and later went on to score before the Bison were able to close out the inning and claim the win.
