Women's Polo Season Ends In National Semifinals

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The Cornell women's polo team made a late charge after falling in an early hole, but Virginia won its national semifinal matchup against the Big Red 13-8 on Wednesday afternoon at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club. The 2018 Northeast Regional champions close their season with a 16-4 overall record and a third-place national ranking.

The Cavaliers got out of the gate quickly with a 5-1 lead at the end of the first chukker. Cornell fought back in the second to get within 7-4 at the half. Virginia extended its lead to five before a penalty goal and a two-pointer got the Big Red back within 9-7. With seconds left in the third chukker, Virginia scored out of a throw-in to make it 10-7 heading to the fourth. The Cavaliers hung tough in the fourth, outscoring Cornell and claiming a berth in the national finals against Texas A&M. Shariah Harris and Hannah Noyes each tallied three goals, while Anna Ullmann scored twice.
