Game Recap: Sprint Football |

Sprint Football Falls to Penn, 16-7

PHILADELPHIA – The Cornell sprint football team suffered its first loss of the season Friday night to Penn, falling 16-7 at Franklin Field.

The Big Red is now 1-1 on the season, while the Quakers are 2-0.

Dean Ames opened the game's scoring on a 38-yard touchdown run, capping off a two-play 41-yard drive. The touchdown was Ames' only rush attempt on the day.

Penn went on to score 16 unanswered points to win the game, but the contest was tight throughout. It wasn't until the beginning of the fourth quarter that the Quakers claimed their first lead of the day on a 37-yard field goal by Theo Papazekos to go up 10-7.

The Cornell defense stood strong against a Penn offense that exploded for 54 points in its season-opener against Mansfield. The Big Red only surrendered two touchdown drives, one of which started at its own five-yard line. Cornell twice halted Penn's drives by causing a turnover on downs.

Senior captain Alfonso Nazzaro led the team with 13 tackles. Right behind him was Harold Green who had eight tackles, included a sack that went down for a 19-yard loss.

Connor Ostrander threw for 70 yards on 8 of 17 passing. Brooks Panhans led the way receiving with three receptions for a total of 26 yards.

The Big Red returns to action next Friday when it hosts Franklin Pierce in its home opener at 7 p.m.
