ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman Nicholas Göth Errington won his second straight match, but the men's squash team was defeated by top-ranked Trinity, 8-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Belkin International Squash Courts.
Fresh off a four-game victory from the No. 6 position on Sunday at sixth-ranked Dartmouth, Göth Errington was bumped up a position Wednesday caught off to a strong start at No. 5 with matching 11-6 victories. His opponent battled back to force a fifth game, but Göth Errington ultimately prevailed, 13-11, for his third victory of the season and give Cornell a point against Trinity (7-0).
Though that was the only victory on the day for 16th-ranked Cornell (1-6), the Big Red made some noise against the defending national champion – particularly on the showcase court. Senior
Perry Hanson took the first game of his match at No. 3 before falling in four, and freshman
Charles Culhane's opponent needed extra points to win the first two games, including an 18-16 marathon in the opener. Finally, senior
Andy Muran took a game off Kush Kumar, a first-team All-American and finalist in the College Squash Association national individual championships last year.
Cornell continues its home stand this weekend with two more non-league matches, hosting 11th-ranked Drexel at 6 p.m. Friday and 12th-ranked Western Ontario at 5 p.m. Saturday.
