ITHACA, N.Y. -- For the third consecutive week, Cornell freshman linebacker
Jake Stebbins has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week it was announced today by the conference office. He is the first Big Red student-athlete to be honored in three straight weeks by the conference office since
Nickolas Null was Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 23 and 30 and Nov. 6, 2017.
Stebbins was an impact player yet again, this time leaving his mark in a 37-35 win over Brown this past Saturday at Schoellkopf Field. The freshman made nine tackles, with 1.5 for a loss and a sack, as well as a pass breakup. As he has all season, he made the biggest plays when the game was on the line. In the decisive fourth quarter, Stebbins had a sack to eventually force a punt, assisted on a tackle for loss that held Brown to a field goal after a Cornell turnover gave the Bears a short field, then ended the game with a big hit on the final play to seal the win.
The 6-0, 220-pound Stebbins has a tackle for loss in five straight contests, a sack in four consecutive and ranks second on the team in tackles (38) while pacing the Big Red in tackles for loss (6.5) and sacks (4.5). Stebbins and the Big Red return to action on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. when Princeton heads to Ithaca for a contest that will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
