11/18/2019 10:30:00 AM

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Here are some notes from Saturday's 20-17 win at No. 12/11 Dartmouth.

Ranking the Facts

  • Cornell won its first game against a ranked team since topping No. 25 Colgate 39-38 in 2016. That victory had been the program's first road win over a ranked team since 1954.
  • The win was also the first road win over a ranked Ivy foe since topping Penn 13-7 on Nov. 25, 1950.
  • The last time the Big Red defeated a ranked Ivy team at all was in 2006 when it topped No. 15/18 Princeton 14-7 on Schoellkopf Field.
  • The victory was the highest ranked opponent Cornell had defeated since the Big Red's final national championship squad knocked off No. 4 Ohio State 23-14 on Oct. 28, 1939.
  • Cornell is now 11-41-1 against teams ranked in the Top 25 since 1936.

Climbing the Charts, Harold Coles Edition

  • Senior Harold Coles posted his eighth career 100-yard rushing game, tied for sixth-most in a career with Luke Hagy and Scott Malaga.
  • His 74 yard touchdown run means he now has a scoring run of at least 74 yards in each of his last three seasons - something no player in Cornell history has ever previously done.
  • The 111 rushing yards is the most against Dartmouth since Princeton's Charlie Volker also had 111 on Nov. 19, 2016.
  • Coles upped his career total to 1,943 yards, passing Scott Malaga (1,925) for No. 8 on the school's all-time list.
  • He now needs just 57 yards to graduate as the eighth player in Cornell history to reach 2,000 yards.
  • With his 14th career rushing touchdown, Coles is tied for 16th in school history in that category.
  • With 710 yards through nine games, Coles has already tied his career high for rushing yards in a season (710 in 2018).
  • He needs 25 yards to pass Luke Hagy (734 in 2014) for the most yards since Luke Siwula had 885 in 2006.
  • Entering his final game, Coles is averaging 5.85 yards per carry for his career. The school record is 5.63 yards per carry by Derrick Harmon '87.
  • Coles also surpassed 2,500 all-purpose yards in the game - joining just 15 other players that have ever donned the Carnellian and White.

Climbing The Charts, Offense Edition

  • With his 1,825 passing yards this season, Kenney is now ranked No. 16 on the school's single-season list and needs 205 in the season finale to join the top 10.
  • Kenney has tossed for 1,920 career yards, good for No. 18 on Cornell's all-time list.
  • He posted his fifth career game of at least 250 passing yards - only five quarterbacks have more.
  • When Kenney scored a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter on a scramble, he joined Delonte Harrell (vs. Georgetown) as the second Cornellian to score a two-point conversion on the ground - something that hasn't been done previously since Luke Siwula reached the end zone against Princeton on Oct. 29, 2005.
  • Senior Owen Peters, who caught the game-winning touchdown against Dartmouth, has upped his career receiving yardage total to 1,202, moving to No. 19 in school history (90 yards from bumping into the top 15).

Climbing The Charts, Defense Edition

  • With 180 career tackles entering the week, senior Jelani Taylor is 36th in school history and needs six to jump into the top 30.
  • Senior David Jones' ninth career interception moved him into a tie for ninth place on the school's list and became his 26th pass defended, No. 7 all-time for the Big Red.
  • Jones also became the 134th player in school history to surpass 100 career stops (101) - joining teammates Jelani Taylor (180) and Mo Bradford (112).
  • With 1,447 all-purpose yards, Jones is 53 yards shy of becoming the 53rd player to hit the 1,500-yard mark.
  • Senior Cyrus Nolan was credited with a half-tackle for a loss to give him 15 for his career, a mark that is tied for 41st in school history and the most since Kurt Frimel '18 graduated with 17.

Climbing The Charts, Special Teams Edition
  • Nickolas Null connected on his 15th and 16th career and now has hit the ninth-most in school history.

  • His 40.44 punting average is second in school history, as is his 15 punts of 50 or more yards and his 48 punts that were fair caught.

  • In both of its Ivy League wins this season, the Big Red offensive line did not allow a sack (Brown, Dartmouth).
