ITHACA, N.Y. --
Kevin McDonough, who spent the 2018 season as the team's defensive intern, has been named tight ends coach at Cornell University it was announced today by
David Archer '05, the Roger J. Weiss '61 Head Coach of Cornell football. Additionally,
Nick Dubowski (special teams) and
Damion Terry (defense) have joined the Big Red for the 2019 season as coaching interns.
Prior to arriving at Cornell, McDonough had served as a graduate assistant coach for video at Toledo in 2017, helping the Rockets to a MAC title, an 11-3 record and a spot in the General Dollar Bowl. Toledo earned votes in the top 25 in both major polls during the season. McDonough assisted in breaking down film, creating highlight videos and social media posts.
McDonough spent two years on the staff at SUNY Brockport as the defensive backs coach and video coordinator. McDonough coached a pair of all-conference players. He began his career as a student assistant coach at SUNY Cortland from 2011-14, serving as a training camp and equipment intern for the New York Jets in both 213 and 2014.
McDonough earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from SUNY Cortland in 2014 and is expected to earn a master's in recreational administration in December of 2018.
Dubowski began his coaching career by spending two seasons at Mercyhurst where he worked as a graduate assistant coach working with tight ends, fullbacks and tackles. He also served as the team's video coordinator. During his time there, Dubowski coached a two-time All-American at fullback and a two-time all-league tight end. He obtained his master's from Mercyhurst in organizational leadership.
As a collegiate player at Indiana-Pennsylvania he was a fullback during his freshman and sophomore seasons before moving to linebacker for his final two years. As a fullback, Dubowski played in 15 games, making nine starts. He had five receptions for 58 yards and one touchdown. After moving to linebacker, Dubowski had 41 tackles over the course of two seasons, including 5.5 tackles for loss. He added a sack, a fumble recovery, two interceptions, three pass breakups and a forced fumble. He graduated from IUP in 2017 with a bachelor's in operations management and minor in economics.
A native of Erie, Pa., he attended Cathedral Preparatory HS. He was a two-time all-state linebacker that helped his team win a state title in 2012 while grabbing the No. 17 national ranking by USA Today.
Terry was a five-year member of the football team at Michigan State, playing in a total of 23 career contests. He earned his only start as a junior at No. 8 Penn State and saw action during the Spartans' College Football Playoff contest against Alabama in 2015. A member of the team's Eagles Leadership Council, he completed 36-of-75 passes (.480) for 356 yards and ran for 215 rushing yards on 59 carries (3.6 avg.).
A high school All-American at Cathedral Prep School, Terry was ranked among the nation's top 25 quarterback recruits by numerous publications. The state player of the year as a senior, he broke nearly every school and District 10 single-season passing record (3,599 passing yards, 50 touchdowns) while leading the Ramblers to a perfect 15-0 season in 2012, including the Class AAA championship and a No. 17 national ranking according to USA Today.
After graduating, Terry worked as a sales representative for Federal Resources Corporation before consulting on logistics with the National Logistics Network.
