Subramanian Tops All-American In #9 Women's Squash's Loss to Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Sophomore Sivasangari Subramanian defeated a three-time selection to the College Squash Association All-America first team on Saturday to account for the women's squash team's lone point in an 8-1 loss to Yale at Brady Squash Center.

Playing in its first match since the semester break, ninth-ranked Cornell (2-2, 0-2 Ivy League) fell behind early against heavily-favored and fourth-ranked Yale (7-0, 2-0). Sophomore Lily Zelov forced a fourth game at No. 2, but the hosts rattled off a 4-0 lead after the first match of the middle rotation was completed.

Subramanian fell in a tight first game against Lucy Beecroft at No. 1, but stormed back to win in four to defeat Beecroft for a second straight year. Meanwhile, senior Lucy Martin had taken a pair of one-game leads at No. 7 to give the Big Red hope of entering the final rotation with a chance. Yale rallied to win that match at No. 7 to clinch, then swept the final three matches to improve to 29-1 all-time against Cornell.

The Big Red is back in action at 1 p.m. Sunday, when it takes on Brown in an Ivy League match in Providence, Rhode Island.
