1/12/2020 8:24:00 PM

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The women's squash team won four of the five matches in the final rotation Sunday to surge past Brown, 6-3, for its first Ivy League victory of the season at Pizzitola Sports Center.

Five of the six victories for Cornell (3-2, 1-2 Ivy League) came in the minimum three games, while freshman Alexis Shatzman rallied from an early deficit to win in four at No. 5. The win virtually assures the Big Red of keeping its standing as the ninth-ranked team in the nation, as determined by the College Squash Association.

Brown (0-3, 0-3), ranked 12th, held its ground to keep the score tied at 2 after the opening wave. Sophomore Sivasangari Subramaniam cruised to win in three at No. 1 for her third straight victory, getting the Big Red on the board. Freshman McKenna Stoltz then wrapped a sweep at No. 6 with extra points in the third.

By that point, sophomore Lily Zelov was on her way to a decisive three-game win at No. 2, and Cornell was on its way to victory. Junior Samira Chatrathi (No. 9) and freshman Ania LaDow (No. 8) accounted for the Big Red's other two points. Cornell improved to 15-12 all-time against the Bears.

Cornell is back on the road next weekend for three matches in a stretch of three days. Cornell starts off taking on Stanford at 6 p.m. Friday in Port Chester, N.Y., then shifts down to Philadelphia to clash with Virginia at 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Drexel at noon Sunday.
