ITHACA, N.Y. — The men's squash team wraps up the non-league portion of its schedule this weekend with a pair of neutral-site matches at Yale's Brady Squash Center in New Haven, Connecticut. The Big Red takes on George Washington at 2 p.m. Saturday and Franklin & Marshall at 11 a.m. Sunday.
Cornell (3-6), which is ranked 14th in the nation by the College Squash Association, is coming off a pair of 7-2 losses last weekend in Philadephia against Virginia and Drexel. Sophomore
Alex Dworetzky won both of his matches at the #7 position to take the team lead in victories with a 6-3 record, one ahead of senior
Jared Scherl (5-3), sophomore Nicholas Göth Errington (5-4) and freshman
Veer Chotrani (5-4).
GW (7-5) has slipped a spot to #10 in the CSA rankings after its 6-3 loss to Dartmouth on Sunday. The result ended a five-match winning streak for the Colonials, who have relatively even contributions throughout their lineup. Freshman Moustafa Montaser is 3-2 from the #1 position since starting intercollegiate competition earlier this month. Jamie Oakley leads the team with a 9-3 record, followed by Salim Khan's mark of 7-4. Both typically compete in the top third. GW has taken a 5-4 lead in the all-time series between the programs with a 7-2 victory in the 2018 Hoehn Cup quarterfinals.
The weekend concludes with another neutral-site match at Brady with Cornell taking on Franklin & Marshall at 11 a.m. Sunday. F&M (11-3) sits 13th in the rankings, which is down one spot from the last rankings of 2019 despite the team's current six-match winning streak. The Diplomats have been particularly strong from the bottom half of their lineup, led by an 11-1 record from Teddy Eill and his active nine-match winning streak. He's tied for the team lead in victories with Sanjay Jeeva (11-3 at #1) and Yannis Senkel (11-3 at #3 and #4).
Cornell holds a 28-24 lead in the all-time series with F&M, including a 6-3 victory in the 13th-place match at the Hoehn Cup last February. The three meetings prior to that were all decided by a score of 5-4, including Big Red victories in 2016-17 and 2017-18.
