HARTFORD, Conn. — Freshman
McKenna Stoltz held on to win a back-and-forth match in five games and sophomore Sivasangari Subrmaniam won her seventh straight match from the top spot this season, but the women's squash team was dealt a 7-2 defeat by Trinity on Friday night at Kellner Center.
While Cornell (3-6), ranked 10th in the nation by the College Squash Association, is now winless in 17 all-time matches against second-ranked Trinity (10-1), Friday night's victories in individual matches gave the Big Red two more points than it had when the teams met last year.
Sivasangari Subramaniam moved to 7-0 from the #1 position with a three-game victory over Min Jie Teh, a first-team CSA All-America selection last year. Stoltz never trailed in her match at #7, but was pushed to the limit before emerging with a victory. It now gives her five wins on the season, which is tied with classmate
Ania LaDow for second-most on the team behind Subramaniam.
Cornell continues its weekend trip by shifting down to New Haven, where it takes on George Washington at 2 p.m. Saturday and Franklin & Marshall at 11 a.m. Sunday at Yale's Brady Squash Center.
