ITHACA, N.Y. — Fresh off a pair of upsets last weekend, the men's squash team turns its attention back to Ivy League play for its last four matches of the regular season, starting with an 11 a.m. Saturday match against visiting Dartmouth at Belkin International Squash Courts.
Cornell (5-6, 1-2 Ivy League) is currently ranked 14th nationally by the College Squash Association, but it's in position to move up after 5-4 victories over #10 George Washington and #13 Franklin & Marshall. That upward surge could gain even more traction with a win over Dartmouth (4-5, 0-3). While the Big Green is tabbed ninth in the first rankings of 2020, Dartmouth nabbed a 6-3 upset win over #5 Drexel last weekend. That creates a possible jumble of the teams ranked #5 and below. Just how far down that shuffle goes depends in part on Saturday's match at Belkin.
The Big Red is coming off exhilarating wins last weekend, with freshman
Veer Chotrani securing the clinching point against the Colonials and senior
Jared Scherl notching the fifth point the following day against the Diplomats. Scherl leads the team with a 7-3 record, while Chotrani and sophomore Nicholas Göth Errington are both 7-4.
The Big Green has won three of its last four matches, including the aforementioned triumph over #5 Drexel. That was followed by a 7-2 loss to #6 Rochester, then last weekend was sewed up with a narrow 5-4 victory over #25 St. Lawrence (though all five points came via sweep). Cornell leads the all-time series against Dartmouth, 39-23, though the Big Green has won the last six meetings. The two most recent matches between the squads ended 8-1, with Göth Errington winning his match at No. 6 last year. Three of the four matches prior to that ended in slim 5-4 margins.
