PRINCETON, N.J. -- For the first time in 31 seasons and 123 games, the Princeton football team left its own field on the losing side of a football contest. Raymond Starbuck and Henry Purcell each scored touchdowns and Starbuck booted a pair of extra-point kicks to lead Cornell past the Tigers 12-0 on Saturday afternoon at University Field.

The Big Red improved to 8-0 on the season and won its second consecutive in the series, while the Tigers slipped to 8-1 .

Princeton entered the game with a 121-0-1 record in home games since the program started in 1869, but a driving rain and a fearsome, unbeaten Cornell team ended the Tigers' perfect season. The Big Red has now handed Princeton its lone two losses on the gridiron over its last 33 outings.

Cornell took the ball first but was held on downs, but the defense, which pitched its sixth shutout in eight games, forced a Princeton fumble. The Big Red recovered at the 25 and two plays later got on the scoreboard. A double pass led to Starbuck going in for the score. He then booted the goal to make it 6-0 in the first half.

It was 12-0 by the time the teams went to halftime after the Big Red recovered another Tiger miscue. This time, it was a Starbuck punt that was muffed, hitting a returner. The live ball was recovered by Charles Taussig. This time, after a long drive, Purcell took the result of a double pass over the line for five more points. Starbuck's kick made it 12-0 in the driving rain.

The weather didn't improve after the break and the Big Red kept Princeton off the scoreboard for the second 30 minutes. The home team got as close as the 10 yard line looking to score, but Cornell held on downs to secure the win.
