ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's squash team won four matches in the top six positions, but Dartmouth swept the three matches from the bottom third's rotation to hang on for a 5-4 victory on Saturday at Belkin International Squash Courts.
Cornell (5-7, 1-3 Ivy League), which entered the weekend ranked 11th by the College Squash Association, needed to sweep the final rotation to pull off the upset against seventh-ranked Dartmouth (5-4, 1-3), but ultimately came up one match short. Sophomore
Lily Zelov rallied from a dropped first game to win in four at No. 2, and freshman
McKenna Stoltz won a marathon five-game tilt at No. 6.
The Big Red took a quick two-point lead on three-game victories from sophomore
Sivasangari Subramaniam (No. 1) and senior
Madison Miles (No. 4). Subramaniam's victory was her 10th straight to start the season heading into particularly challenging matches in the final three before the postseason. Stoltz and Zelov are now tied for second on the team with seven victories apiece.
Cornell returns to Ivy League play next weekend with a visit to Princeton at 3:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a home match against Penn at noon Sunday, Feb. 9 at Belkin.
