ITHACA, N.Y. — Sophomore
Sivasangari Subramaniam survived her first five-game match of the season, but the women's squash team was handed a 7-2 loss by Penn on Sunday at Belkin International Squash Courts.
Cornell (5-9, 1-5 Ivy League), which is tabbed 11th in the College Squash Association's national rankings, fell to 2-29 all-time against seventh-ranked Penn (8-5, 4-3). The Big Red came close to pulling off an upset of the Quakers last year, but Penn avoided a repeat on Sunday.
Subramaniam improved to a perfect 12-0 on the season with her victory at No. 1, though it took a rally to end up on top. Penn's Jessica Davis, a first-team All-Ivy League selection last season, jumped out to a victory in the first game before Subramaniam stormed back to take a 2-1 lead. Davis forced a fifth game, which Subramaniam won, 11-7, to stay perfect on the year.
Freshman
McKenna Stoltz accounted for the Big Red's other point with a four-game victory at No. 7. It pushes her record on the season to 8-5, which gives her the second-most victories behind just Subramaniam.
The Big Red wraps up its regular season on Saturday, when top-ranked Harvard visits for an Ivy League match at Belkin International Squash Courts.
