NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The women's squash team wrapped up play at the Kurtz Cup by sweeping the first two rotations en route to a 7-2 victory over Brown in the third-place match at Yale's Brady Squash Center.
Seniors
Lucy Martin and
Madison Miles, and sophomore
Sivasangari Subramaniam all wrapped up perfect 3-0 records at the College Squash Association's 'B' Division national championship weekend for Cornell (7-11). Miles (No. 4) and freshman
Ania LaDow (No. 9) swept their respective matches to give the 11th-ranked Big Red a quick 2-0 lead. Senior
Colby Gallagher then rallied from two down at No. 3 to force a fifth game that she won, 12-10, for her first victory of the weekend.
Subramaniam wrapped up her dual season with a 15-1 record thanks to a three-game sweep at No. 1. Freshmen
Alexis Shatzman (No. 6) and
McKenna Stoltz (No. 7) then both won in four to push Cornell's lead over 12th-ranked Brown to 6-0.
The Bears would ultimately win two of the final three matches. The lone Big Red point came from Martin, who battled back from an early deficit to win in five at No. 8.
The results of the weekend will likely leave Cornell with a season-ending national ranking of 11th. While team competition is now complete, select members of the team will compete in the CSA's Individual Championships from March 6-8 at Penn Squash Center in Philadelphia.
