ITHACA, N.Y. – FloWrestling announced Monday that current Cornell wrestling assistant coach
Gabe Dean '17, who has been out of competitive wrestling since 2017, will return to the mat for an eight-man, 195-pound tournament on October 31. Dean last wrestled at the U23 World Team Trials on Oct. 8, 2017.
In addition to Dean, Iowa's Sammy Brooks, Indiana's Nate Jackson (current assistant coach at Princeton), Northern Iowa's Drew Foster and Taylor Lujan, Ohio State's Myles Martin, Penn State's Shakur Rasheed and Pittsburgh's Keith Gavin will join the bracket.
Dean graduated in the spring of 2017 as one of the top wrestlers in collegiate history. A three-time NCAA finalist at 184 pounds, Dean posted a career record of 152-7 with 101 bonus wins, both school records, and never finished lower than third at nationals. Dean won four EIWA wrestling titles and was a two-time Ivy League Wrestler of the Year. The four-time, first-team All-Ivy League pick was the 2014 Ivy League and EIWA Rookie of the Year and was a two-time Coaches Trophy Award winner as the most outstanding wrestler at the EIWA tournament.
