CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Cornell women's polo team opened up the Virginia Polo Fall Tournament with a rout of Colorado State, besting the Rams, 22-2, on Wednesday evening in Charlottesville, Va. With the victory, the Big Red improves to 2-1 on the season.

The dominant win over Colorado State marks the largest margin of victory for the Big Red since it defeated Guelph by a score of 34-1 on Jan. 25, 2019 at the Oxley Equestrian Center in Ithaca, N.Y. during the 2018-19 season. The Big Red opened the floodgates on the Rams from the very start, scoring 11 goals in the first half while holding Colorado State to a lone goal to build a comfortable 11-1 lead at the half.

A pair of goals for Lea Jih-Vieira and Jasmine Umrigar and a score by Rachel Booth, coupled with tough defense, gave the Big Red a 5-0 lead at the end of the first chukker. Booth took control in the second chukker, tallying three more goals, and Sophia Neis got in on the action, notching a pair of her own.

It was smooth sailing for the Big Red in the second half, spearheaded by four goals by Jih-Vieira. Booth, Umrigar, and Neis each added two more, guiding Cornell to the 22-2 victory.

The Big Red was led in the win by six goals apiece from Booth and Jih-Vieira, both of which were season-highs. Neis and Umrigar both contributed four goals in the contest.

The Cornell women's polo team will play its second and final game of the Virginia Polo Fall Tournament, hosted by the University of Virginia Polo Club, against the host Cavaliers on Friday at 4 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va.
