ITHACA, N.Y.— The Cornell men's cross country team will look to capture its first NCAA Championships berth since 1992 when it toes the line against the region's top talent at the NCAA Northeast Regional Friday, Nov. 12 at Boston's Franklin Park.

Last Time Out

• Matt Fusco hit the mats at 24:29.4 for 16th place to lead the men's cross country team at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships at Princeton's West Windsor Fields. 
• Like it has all season, the Big Red contingency worked well sticking together as scorers went 16, 24, 31, 39, 40, 43 and 47 en route to putting up 134 points. 
• After Fusco, Perry Mackinnon followed with a 24:48.4 for 24th, Rhys Hammond a 25:04.2 for 31st, Thomas Foster ran a 25:10.2 for 39th, Jamie Granata followed with a 25:16.7 for 40th, Greg Fusco ran a 25:20.6 for 43rd and Marek Nowak clocked a 25:45.3 for 47th to round out Cornell scorers. 
• While the Big Red stuck together, the team battle was all Princeton as all seven scorers finished in the race's top 15 for the Tigers.

• A total of 31 teams compete as a team at the NCAA D-I Championships. 18 bids are automatic (top two teams in each of nine regions), 13 bids are at-large.
• At-large selection: The process for selection involves a review of regular-season competition and finish at the regional championships. Regional finish is the first criterion; for example, a fourth-place team may not be selected for an at-large berth ahead of a third-place team from the same region. But, a team with a fourth-place finish, for example, could "push" both the third- and fourth-place finishing team into the championships if the fourth-place team has enough "wins" to be the next at-large team. Wins from the regular-season are only counted if squads beat another university's "A" team, defined by having competed four or more individuals in that regular-season meet who also competed at the regional championships. Official designations of "A" and "B" teams can be accomplished only after the NCAA regional meets have been completed. Also, only competitions starting September 10 through regional meet weekend are included in the analysis.
• Additional Individual Selections: After teams have been determined, 38 additional individuals per gender are selected to compete at the NCAA Championships. Among individuals NOT selected as members of qualifying teams in the above process, the top four finishers at each regional meet are automatically selected (each must have finished within the top 25 of the region).
• At-large selection: Two additional athletes will be selected from the remainder of the national pool (and must have finished in the regional top 25) as at-large individuals.
