ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell wrestling alumni Nahshon Garrett '16 is set to be inducted into the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Hall of Fame (EIWA) as announced by the EIWA Hall of Fame committee on Wednesday morning. Garrett will be formally inducted on Sunday, March 6, 2022 following the final round of the EIWA Championships, which will be held March 5-6 in Ithaca, N.Y. at Newman Arena.
A native of Chico, Calif., Garrett captured the 2016 NCAA title at 133 pounds with a 7-6 win over Iowa's Cory Clark. Garrett became the sixth four-time NCAA All-American at Cornell joining Kyle Dake, Travis Lee, Dustin Manotti, Troy Nickerson and Cam Simaz. A national finalist in 2014 at 125 pounds, Garrett was the 10th four-time EIWA champion in league history. Following his senior campaign Garrett was named Ivy League Wrestler of the Year for a second time, while becoming the sixth Big Red wrestler to become a four-time first team All-Ivy selection. After a 37-0 campaign as a senior, Garrett finished his collegiate career with a 149-12 record, including a 50-5 record in duals and 92 bonus point victories (23 by fall, 33 by tech, 36 by major).
Following his folkstyle wrestling career, Garrett transitioned to freestyle where he earned a spot on the 2018 World team at 61 kilograms with a victory at Final X. Garrett was a second place finisher at the U.S. Open in 2017 and 2018.
Inducted alongside Garrett will be Harvard's J.P. O'Connor, Lehigh's Tom Sculley and Army's Phillip Simpson.
