HANOVER, N.H. — Sophomore forward
Ava Laden scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 18th minute to break the Cornell women's soccer team's scoreless drought, but Dartmouth scored two goals five minutes apart in the second half to rally for a 2-1 victory in the teams' season finale on Saturday at Burnham Field.
Laden's powerful finish to the left of the Dartmouth goalkeeper came after she got behind a defender on the right side off a pass from freshman
Peyton Nichols in the midfield. The goal marked Cornell's first in five games, dating back to the game-winner Oct. 5 in a 2-1 victory over Colgate. Laden finishes the season as the scoring leader for Cornell (3-11-2, 1-6 Ivy League) with 16 points, which is also tied for eighth-most among competitors in the Ivy League.
Senior
Evanthia Spyredes gave the Big Red its best chance to expand the early lead against Dartmouth, but her header from near the penalty spot in the 28th minute looped just over the crossbar. Later in the half, sophomore
Reagan Pauwels took dead aim on a free kick from 30 yards that required a save from Emily Hardy.
