CUBS Camp Returns June 28 For Summer Programming

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell University Department of Athletics and Physical Education has announced that 2021 CUBS Camp programming will begin on Monday, June 28, in full accordance with New York State, Tompkins County Health Department and Cornell University COVID-19 camp operation guidelines.

"We were one of the few camps in the area that were able to open for Summer 2020, and it was such a wonderful experience for the kids," said Kath Fenzel, Associate Director of Athletics, Ticketing, Camp Programming & Marketing. "After a few months of remote school and minimal interaction with their peers, it was so great to see kids getting outside, being active and having fun at CUBS Camp! We are thrilled to again have University support, and we're confident we can have another safe and successful program this summer."

CUBS Camp is a week-long camp (running for seven sessions, June 28-August 13) geared toward giving campers a unique introduction to several different sports and activities. From the time the boys and girls (ages 4-14) arrive in the morning, until the time they leave each afternoon, they are engaged in activities led by a team of fun and outgoing counselors. CUBS Pre-K (ages 4-5) will follow their own curriculum, tailored to younger kids and led by a certified Pre-K teacher. CUBS JV (ages 6-10) and CUBS Varsity (11-14) will have their own sports-based curriculum. All campers will spend as much of the day outdoors, as weather permits.

An exciting return to CUBS Camp this summer will be swimming in Cornell's Teagle pool, which was offline in 2020. Campers will be required to pass a swim test in order to use the pool. Non-swimmers will have daily outdoor water games, so campers of all swimming abilities will have the chance to get wet and cool off each day!

"We had to change things up a bit in 2020 in compliance with all New York State Department of Health guidelines for camps during COVID-19, much of which will remain in place this summer," added Fenzel, "but CUBS remains a sports and outdoor activities-based camp, and we look forward to continuing to provide a fun daycare option for working parents and guardians in the community."

Online registration for CUBS Camp is now open at cornellcamps.com.
