ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell wrestling is set to send 10 competitors to the U.S. Wrestling Last Chance Olympic Trials Qualifier, taking place in Forth Worth, Texas, March 26-27. The top two finishers at each weight class in both men's freestyle and Greco-Roman will qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, held in Fort Worth, April 2-3.
Coverage from the last chance qualifier will be broadcast by FloWrestling, starting with Session I of the senior women's freestyle and Greco-Roman competition at 11:00 a.m. EDT on Friday, March 26. Freestyle competition gets underway at 11:00 a.m. EDT on Saturday, March 27.
Competing in freestyle for the Big Red will be Joshua Saunders (65kg),
Hunter Richard (74kg), Julian Ramirez (74kg),
Jonathan Loew (86kg), Chris Foca (86kg),
Max Dean (86kg) and
Gabe Dean (86kg). Wrestlers featured in the Greco-Roman bracket will be
Phillip Moomey (60kg),
Jonathon Fagen (87kg) and
Andrew Berreyesa (86kg). Former Cornelians
Frank Perrelli (57kg) and
Ben Honis (97kg) are also competing in freestyle.
Seedings for the qualifier were released on Wednesday night. Seeded Big Red wrestlers include Perrelli (#3 - 57kg), Ramirez (#8 - 74kg),
Gabe Dean (#1 - 86kg),
Max Dean (#7 - 86kg) and Honis (#1 - 97kg).
Already qualified for the Olympic Team Trials are
Vito Arujau (57kg),
Yianni Diakomihalis (65kg) and
Kyle Dake (74kg). As the 2019 World champion at 79kg, Dake automatically advances to the semifinals.
