GUATEMALA CITY – Following competition at the 2021 United World Wrestling (UWW) Pan-American Championships on Sunday, May 30,
Kyle Dake '13 and Vito Arujau will each return to East Hill with a gold medal hanging around their necks. Dake defeated Victor Hernandez Luna (Mexico) in the 74kg final, 10-0, while Arujau bested Roberto Alejandro Blanco (Mexico) in the 57kg final, 10-0.
Arujau and Dake stormed through their competition throughout the tournament, combining to outscore opponents by a 71-0 tally.
Dake disposed of Julio Rodriguez Romero (Dominican Republic), 10-0, in round one before defeating Renato Da Silva (Brazil), 10-0, in the quarterfinals and Jasmit Phulka (Canada), 10-0, in the semifinals. Wrestling against Victor Hernandez Luna of Mexico in the 74kg finals, Dake needed just 1:17 to claim gold. Dake secured three takedowns in the bout before finishing Hernandez Luna off with a pair of gut-wrenches.
Arujau had similar success, trouncing Bryan De Oliveria Pereira (Brazil), 10-0, in the quarterfinals and Alexander Fernandez Pena (Dominican Republic), 11-0, in the semifinals. Things were no different for Arujau in the finals as his match lasted just 1:22. Arujau took down Roberto Alejandro Blanco of Mexico and leg-laced him four times to claim victory by technical superiority.
