Match Against Marist Up Next for Men's Soccer

ITHACA, N.Y. - Following a draw in its match against Syracuse on Tuesday, the Cornell men's soccer program is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 25 for a 5 p.m. game against Marist at Berman Field.

• Cornell played to a 1-1 draw against Syracuse on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Berman Field.
Harry Fuller scored the equalizing goal for the Big Red in the 57th minute off an assist from Lalo Serrano.
• The Cornell-Syracuse Rivalry series now stands at 40-27-8.
• Cornell had more opportunities on goal, out-shooting Syracuse 15-7 overall and 7-4 in shots on goal.
• Syracuse opened the scoring in the 40th minute on a goal from Francesco Pagano.
 

About The Big Red:

•  Cornell finished the 2019 season with a record of 10-5-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the Ivy League. The Big Red placed third in the Ivy League, its best finish since 2012 when Cornell won the conference championship.
•  Cornell returns 17 players from the 2019 season while adding 19 newcomers into the program. The Big Red returns 9,282 minutes played of a possible 16,525.
•  Junior Connor Drought (second team), senior Emeka Eneli (honorable mention), and fifth year Harry Fuller (honorable mention) return as All-Ivy League selections in 2019. Fifth year Charles Touche (first team) and senior Tate Keir (second team) were All-Ivy League selections in 2018.
•  Cornell was chosen to finish second in the Ivy League for the 2021 season in the preseason media poll. The Big Red garnered 97 points with one first place vote to finish behind Yale.
•  Seniors Emeka Eneli and Jonah Kagen were named co-captains for the 2021 season.
 

Big Red in the Rankings:

• Cornell ranks No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches Northeast Region behind New Hampshire. The Big Red received 32 points in the receiving votes section of the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll for Sept. 21, the only Ivy League program doing so.
• The Big Red rank ahead of Penn, Princeton and Yale in the regional rankings.
 

Big Red by the Numbers:

• Cornell ranks 12th nationally in scoring offense (2.50 goals per game) and 5th national in shots on goal per game (7.83).
• The Big Red ranks 20th in points per game (6.67) and 23rd in total goals scored (15).
• Senior Tyler Bagley ranks 4th nationally in goals per game (1.00) and 6th in points per game (2.33). His six goals rank 7th in the country.
 

Defensive Darlings:

• Cornell has shuffled its back line around a bit this season with Henry Hylbert, Jonah Kagen, Mateo Rodriguez, Kisa Kiingi, Nick Allen, Connor Drought, Tate Keir, and Cam Maquat all making starts. Hylbert, Rodriguez and Kagen have each made five starts in six games.
• Keir made his return to the Big Red Starting XI against Syracuse.
• Goalkeeper Brady McSwain has started all six of Cornell's matches thus far making 21 saves. McSwain owns a .700 save percentage and a 1.39 goals against average.
 

Midfield Maestros:

Tyler Bagley, Harry Fuller, Wilson Eisner and Lalo Serrano have been Cornell's consistent starting four in the midfield all season.
• Bagley is the team leader in goals (6), while Fuller has four to his name. 
• Kagen has the ability to shift up into the midfield as well, along with Alioune Ka and Brandon Morales.
 

Fast Forwards:

Emeka Eneli has started all six games up front for the Big Red and has been joined by Matthew Goncalves, Charles Touche and Brandon Morales in the starting lineup this season.
• Eneli owns twp goals and is tied for the team-high in assists with two.
Griffin Garrard. Alioune Ka and Matthew Goncalves have also seen time at the forward position, with Ka and Goncalves each owning one goal.
 

About Marist:

• Marist was selected to finish 5th in the MAAC behind Quinnipiac, Fairfield, Monmouth and Rider.
• The Red Foxes are 3-3-1 this season with wins over Saint Joseph's (1-0), St. John's (1-0) and Howard (4-0). Marist played a tight match with highly-ranked New Hampshire, but lost 2-1.
• Stefan Copetti is the team leader in points with five on one goal and three assists. 
• Huib Achterkamp and Richard Morel are tied for the team-high in goals with two each.
• Junior Dylan McDermott started the last match in goal for Marist and is 0-1-1 on the season with a .73 goals against average and a .833 save percentage.
• Marist's goals against average of .683 ranks 25th in the country and its save percentage of .853 ranks 15th overall.
 

The Series vs. Marist:

• It's the first ever meeting between Cornell and Marist in men's soccer. Cornell is 7-7-1 all-time against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponents.
 

Up Next:

• Cornell gets its Ivy League season started next weekend when it travels to Philadelphia to meet Penn at 5 p.m. Penn is currently 3-2-1 and plays Monmouth prior to meeting the Big Red.
