LOCK HAVEN, Pa.— The Cornell field hockey team overwhelmed Lock Haven Wednesday as the Big Red passed the Bald Eagles 1-0 on the road. The BIg Red defense stepped up in a big way as the game marked the second in a row that opponents have been held to just three shots or less.
The contest belonged to the Big Red from the opening whistle, and while the first quarter was scoreless, the Big Red dominated early and worked to keep the ball in Bald Eagle territory.Â
All together, the Big Red recorded five penalty corners in the first half with the one coming just after the 10 minute mark in the second quarter meaning the most.

Claire Wolfe gained control and dished a pass to
Caroline Ramsey who then sniped the bottom left corner of the cage for her sixth goal of the season. Wolfe's assist marked her first-ever collegiate point.Â
Lock Haven's first shot of the night came at the 2:34 mark of the third quarter when one defected on a penalty corner and found itself in front of the Big Red net. The play brought up another Lock Haven penalty corner opportunity, but the Bald Eagles couldn't get another shot off. Later in the fourth quarter, Lock Haven's Martina Spangenberg sent one soaring over
Aerin Park on a penalty corner before shooting one wide moments later.Â
While Lock Haven managed to get three shots off the defense in the second half, the Big Red kept pressure on the Bald Eagles up to the final whistle.Â
In total, the Big Red totaled five shots and five penalty corners, while Lock Haven tallied three shots and four penalty corners.
Caroline Ramsey recorded three shots for Cornell, while
Isabella Palde and
Olivia Friedberg had the other two.
Aerin Park did not need to record a save in the Big Red's second shutout of the season.
The Big Red return to Marsha Dodson Field and resume play Saturday when it takes on Columbia at noon.
