ITHACA, N.Y. — The men's squash team hosts a big match against Princeton at 2 p.m. Friday before hitting the road to wrap up Ivy League play with a match against top-ranked Penn at noon Sunday.
The Big Red is coming off a split of Ivy League matches last weekend, winning two of three concurrent three-game matches early in a 6-3 victory at Dartmouth before a 9-0 loss the next day at Harvard.
Rohan Iyer has the Big Red's top winning percentage with a 3-1 mark, all coming from the #9 position.
Veer Chotrani (#1) and
Charles Culhane (#4) are both 4-2 from higher on the ladder.
The weekend essentially provides Cornell (3-4, 2-2) its last opportunity to make a case for promotion in the College Squash Association's national rankings. The Big Red continues to sit seventh – which remains aligned for a trip to the Potter Cup, the top division of the CSA's National Championships – with all remaining matches after this weekend against teams below it.
But this weekend features opponents to which Cornell looks up in the rankings. Princeton (4-3, 1-2) has slipped to fifth after losses to Yale and Trinity last weekend. The team is led by two-time All-American and former Ivy League Rookie of the Year Youssef Ibrahim, who boasts a 7-1 record from the top position. Penn (13-0, 3-0) sits atop the national rankings, having conceded no more than two points in any of its matches this season. Cornell is 5-52 all-time against Princeton and 21-43 against Penn.
Both matches will be available through subscription-based Ivy League Network, which is powered by Stretch Internet. Live scoring will also be available through the CSA's website, csasquash.com.
