PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Cornell field hockey team (8-6, 3-2 Ivy) defeated Brown 1-0 in Providence, R.I. on Friday, October 21. Senior
Caroline Ramsey notched her eighth goal of the season in the contest.
The Big Red jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Ramsey buried a penalty corner by keeping the ball low and slotting it through the Brown DPC just over five minutes into the game. Seniors
Claire Jones and
Bridget Mahoney were credited with assists as Jones was on the service and Mahoney acted as the stopper.
Cornell successfully killed three cards in the second quarter. A green card sidelined freshman
Grace Leahy less than a minute into play. Ramsey and Mahoney were each charged with a yellow card, one of which rolled into the third. The Big Red not only prevented the Bears from scoring, but allowed just two shots during all three penalties.
Ramsey helped save the Big Red from a tied game in the third quarter when a Brown penalty corner got through the Cornell DPC. Ramsey, who is second in the nation in defensive saves, deflected the shot out of the path of the goal to earn her ninth defensive save of the season. Cornell maintained its defensive strength through the fourth to seal the game, 1-0.
