Vladislav Melnic was the lone Cornell men's tennis player to post a victory at last weekend's ITA Super Regionals, which was hosted by fellow Ivy League school Harvard.
Melnic handily won his first-round match over Harvard's Alan Yim, posting a straight-set victory and dropping just five games, 6-4, 6-1. Columbia's Michael Zheng, who was the sixth-ranked player in the draw, eliminated Melnic in the second round in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Aman Sharma and
Petar Teodorovic both fell in their opening round matches to players from Columbia. Top-seeded Alex Kotzen advanced after defeating Sharma, 6-4, 6-2, while Hugo Hashimoto bested Teodorovic in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.
Both Teodorovic and Sharma played in the consolation draw, which featured Teodorovic advancing to the quarterfinals.
After winning just one game in the first set, Teodorovic won consecutive sets over Yale's Aidan Reilly, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, advancing to the quarterfinals. Teodorovic's lost to Yim – the player Melnic eliminated from the main draw – in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Sharma also participated in the consolation draw, but lost to Harvard's Masato Perera in the opening round, 6-4, 6-2.
