CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Cornell women's polo team suffered its first losses of the season, dropping contests to national powers Virginia (10-2) and SMU (8-5) this past week in finishing third at the Virginia Fall Tournament. Cornell is 3-2 on the season.

In its opener, Cornell and the host Cavaliers were tied 1-1 after the first chukker, but Virginia scored eight straight to capture the 10-2 triumph. A six-goal third broke the game open. Lea Jih-Vieira and Jasmine Umrigar each tallied goals to knot the score after UVa scored the game's first two goals of the game.

Against SMU on Friday, the Mustangs raced out to a 8-3 lead after three chukkers, and consecutive fourth-period goals couldn't get the Big Red all the way back. Jih-Vieira and Umrigar had two goals apiece.

Cornell will be back in action this weekend when it will play a pair of games in the Boston area.
