ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell field hockey closed out the 2022-23 season with a 1-0 win over Yale at home for senior day. Freshman
Grace Leahy tallied her fifth goal of the season in the contest.
The first quarter of play saw five Yale penalty corners. Senior goalkeeper
Aerin Park and the rest of the Big Red DPC help strong to keep the Bulldogs scoreless through one. The second quarter saw more balanced action, with Park making incredible back-to-back saves at 22:16 and 22:21 to prevent a Yale penalty corner goal. The defensive effort brought the scoreline to 0-0 at half.
The Big Red found the goal with 3:40 remaining in the quarter. Leahy redirected a pass from sophomore midfielder
Caroline Ramsey to take the 1-0 lead. Cornell held off the Yale attack for the remainder of the match to close out the match, 1-0.
A LOOK BACK
The 2022 season will go down in the Cornell history books as one of the best in Big Red history. The win over Yale marks just the 12th time Cornell has finished with 10 or more wins in a season. Cornell boasted its first National Player of the Week this year, its third week ever ranked in the national field hockey polls, and a program-first win over a top-5 opponent. On behalf of Cornell Athletics and the Cornell Field Hockey program, thank you to the fans and their support, and thank you to the senior class who helped shaped these past four years.
