ITHACA, N.Y. –
Emeka Eneli has been selected by Real Salt Lake in the first round of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, it was announced Wednesday evening during Major League's Soccer annual draft.
Eneli, who is coming off a 15-point season with the Big Red, was selected 25th overall by Real Salt Lake and was the last of three first-round selections by the organization.
In addition to being selected by Real Salt Lake, Eneli has received First Team All-Northeast Region (Dec. 6) and Second Team All-America honors (Dec. 9) by United Soccer Coaches, as well as earning his second First Team All-Ivy award on Nov. 16.
Eneli's selection by Real Salt Lake marks the first time in Cornell history a Big Red player has been a first-round selection.
He became the third Cornell player selected in the MLS SuperDraft, joining Ian Pilarski (49th overall in 2004) and
Tyler Bagley (55th overall last year). It is the fourth time a Cornell player has been drafted, also joining David Mahoney, who was a 15th overall selection in the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft.
During his tenure on East Hill, Eneli concludes his career with the Big Red with 60 points (21 goals, 18 assists), which ranks seventh all-time. Eneli's 18 assists were tied with Rob Elliot (1993-96) for the second-most by a Cornell player and he also cracked the top 10 in goals scored at Cornell, matching John Bayne (1984-87) for the 10th-most in a career.
