#8 Women's Squash Readies For Big Match vs. #9 Penn

2/1/2022 10:34:00 AM

ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's squash team concludes Ivy League play at noon Sunday with a match against Penn that will likely have ramifications to which division of the College Squash Association National Championships the Big Red will ultimately qualify.

As it has for the entirety of the season to date, Cornell (3-6, 1-4 Ivy League) sits in eighth in the CSA national rankings – which, if sustained over the final two weeks of the season, would lead the Big Red to its first berth in the top-flight Howe Cup since 2018. Ninth-ranked Penn (7-6, 1-3) likely presents the final hurdle for Cornell to achieve that goal, as a Quakers victory would likely lead to the teams swapping rankings and the Big Red needing to sweep its final matches against #6 Drexel (Feb. 12) and #20 St. Lawrence (Feb. 13) to have any chance to climb back into the top eight.

Senior Sivasangari Subramaniam continues to lead the Big Red with a 9-0 record from the #1 position. Sophomore Wen Li Lai accounted for Cornell's other point against Princeton with a three-game sweep at #2 to improve to 6-3 on the season. Cornell is 2-29 al-time against Penn – though it came close to the Quakers with a 5-4 defeat in 2019.

A broadcast of the match will be available through subscription-based Ivy League Network, which is powered by Stretch Internet. Live scoring will also be available through the CSA's website, csasquash.com.
