#7 Men's Squash Wraps Up Regular Season With Trio of Matches

2/10/2022 3:16:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. — The men's squash team closes out its regular season this weekend with a trio of matches at Belkin International Squash Courts. The Big Red hosts Western at 6 p.m. Friday, Drexel at noon Saturday and St. Lawrence at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Cornell (4-6) remains seventh in the College Squash Association rankings and can essentially clinch a spot in the Potter Cup – the top division of the CSA National Championships – for the first time since 2014 with a sweep of victories this weekend. While the Big Red came up empty in Sunday's Ivy League finale at Penn, the squad notched a key victory just before that by pulling out a 5-4 win Feb. 2 at 10th-ranked Rochester. Charles Culhane (5-4) and Rohan Iyer (4-3) sport winning records in their respective matches for Cornell.

Western (nee Western Ontario) is ranked 12th and sitting a 3-2 entering its own three-match weekend. The Mustangs. The Big Red is 15-29 all-time against Western Ontario, though Cornell has won nine of the last 12 meetings dating back to the 2008-09 season. The Mustangs won a 7-2 decision in their last visit to Belkin on Nov. 15, 2019.

Drexel (9-6) will be looking to climb back into the Potter Cup mix after a 5-4 loss to Virginia on Feb. 6 in the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championships slid the Dragons to ninth, which would fall outside the Potter Cup field. Drexel came close on Wednesday, but ultimately came up short on another 5-4 decision against #5 Princeton. The Dragons holds a slight 5-4 lead on Cornell in the all-time series between the programs.

St. Lawrence (14-4) is ranked 15th after winning three of four matches at the Liberty League Championship last weekend. The Big Red is 9-6 all-time against the Saints, who are coached by former Big Red assistant coach Scott Denne.

All three matches will be available through subscription-based Ivy League Network, which is powered by Stretch Internet. Live scoring for all matches will also be available through the CSA's website, csasquash.com.
