PHILADELPHIA —The men's squash team was defeated by top-ranked Penn on Sunday, 9-0, at Penn Squash Center.
Like many of Penn's 15 opponents to come before it, Cornell (4-6) couldn't muster much of a threat against the College Squash Association's #1-ranked team.
Charles Culhane (#4),
Nikhil Arjunan Iyer (#5),
Nick Robinson (#7) and
Humza Khan (#8) were each able to force a fourth game out of their respective matches.
Coming into the makeup match between the squads that was originally scheduled for a week earlier, the Quakers were riding the high of edging rival Princeton, 5-4, on Saturday. By capping off a 16-0 regular season and 6-0 mark against its league brethren, Penn captured its first outright Ivy League title since 1969.
The loss will not do any damage to Cornell's current national ranking of seventh coming into a busy final weekend of regular-season competition. The Big Red hosts a trio of matches at Belkin International Squash Courts, starting with #12 Western at 6 p.m. Friday. After squaring off against #8 Drexel at noon Saturday, the Big Red wraps up the stretch against St. Lawrence at 11 a.m. Sunday.
