Game One
Mia Burd threw a gem in the opener, hurling a complete game four hitter to improve to 7-5 on the season. Burd struck out out six and surrendered one walk, stranding five Raiders on base.
The Big Red took advantage of four Colgate errors to score six unearned runs - three in the second and three more in the fifth.
Hanna Crist led the offense with a 2-for-4 showing, while
Lilly Travieso drove in two runs with
Emily McKinney scoring twice.
Bailey Misken took the hard-luck loss for the Raiders, allowing just one earned run and striking out six over 4.1 innings of work in the circle.
Cornell scored three in the second without collecting a hit, as two walks, a catcher's interference call and a three-run throwing error made it 3-0.
A pair of errors allowed the Big Red to plate four more in the fifth, with a double by
Olivia Rooney scoring one and a two-bagger by
Lilly Travieso scoring two.
The Raiders scratched one run across in the sixth, but Burd was able to close it out extend its non-conference win streak to six games.
Game Two
Cornell raced out to a 3-0 lead, watched the Raiders score four to go ahead, then plated nine in the fifth to walk off the game on Crist's three-run shot as darkness threatened the outcome.
Crist was 3-for-4 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored, while
Allison Kerce and
Olivia Rooney each had a pair of runs and two runs scored. The offense pounded out 10 hits, including four for extra bases.
Maxine McCraw improved to 4-4 on the season with a solid effort out of the bullpen, allowing just one hit and no runs in 2.1 innings of work with two strikeouts.
A two-run triple by
Emily McKinney in the first set the tone. Colgate responded in the third with a homer by Meagahn Houk to begin an inning that saw the Raiders collect five hits and score four times, the go-ahead run coming after Quinn Livesay was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to put the Raiders ahead for the first time in the doubleheader.
Cornell tied it in the bottom of the fifth inning on an
Olivia Rooney single, but a second run was cut down at the plate. Not to be denied,
Lilly Travieso had an RBI single,
Emma Antich doubled down the leftfield line for two more, and
Allison Kerce scored two with a single up the middle. Three pitches later, Kerce belted the game-winning shot to center to hand the Big Red the walk-off win.
The Big Red will host Brown on Senior Weekend beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 30 with first pitch at 12:30 p.m. at Niemand*Robison Field. Cornell will honor its eight seniors prior to Sunday's 12:30 p.m. first pitch.
