ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's lightweight rowing team will look to continue its dominance in the water when it hits the road to compete for the Baggaley Cup against Dartmouth and the Geiger Cup vs. Columbia. The Big Red will race the Big Green on Saturday, April 30 at 8 a.m. on the Connecticut River in Hanover, N.H., followed by the Lions on Sunday, May 1 at 10 a.m. at Overpeck Park in Leonia, N.J.

Columbia registered two second-place finishes for their first and second varsity boats against Yale and Penn its last time out when it competed in the Dodge Cup. The Big Red reclaimed the Geiger Cup in the 2019 season after the Lions won in 2016 and 2018. The Lions will race Delaware the day prior to meeting with the Big Red. Placed into competition in 1956, the Big Red has a 38-14 lead over Columbia, with MIT winning it an additional 12 times.

The Baggaley Cup was first put into place in 1964, with Cornell leading the series against Dartmouth 35-21. The Big Red has won seven straight contests after the Big Green won the 2011 and 2012 meetings.

The varsity eight retained the Platt Cup the last time out when it beat Princeton by three seconds. Each successive Cornell boat increased its lead over the Princeton boats to eventually win the Harriett Cup for most team points. With the cup win, the Big Red moved to 4-0 in head-to-head varsity eight races this season.
