ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell football team placed six student-athletes on Phil Steele's 2022 preseason all-conference team. First-teamers were seniors Thomas Glover at wide receiver and Jake Stebbins at linebacker. The second team included offensive lineman Joe Kelly, safety Demetrius Harris, returner Javonni Cunningham and all-purpose selection Jameson Wang.

Glover earned first-team All-Ivy League honors at receiver in 2021 and returns for a fifth year. The converted running back excelled in his first season at the position, catching 55 passes for 767 yards and four touchdowns to go along with a pair of two-point conversions. Glover paced the Ivy League in receiving yards, was fourth in receptions and stood fifth in receiving touchdowns.

Stebbins is also a returning first-team pick after leading the Ivy League in total tackles (95) and ranking in the top 25 nationally while adding team highs of 10.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks. He was credited with 16 more tackles than any Ivy player in league games only, with his 10.1 tackles nearly a full stop ahead of No. 2 (9.2). In four games against nationally ranked teams, Stebbins posted 35 tackles with 7.5 for a loss, 3.0 sacks, a forced fumble, three quarterback hurries and two pass breakups.

Kelly started all 10 games on the offensive line in 2021, including eight at right guard and two at left guard. He was a key part of an offensive line that led the Ivy League and ranked fifth nationally with 0.9 sacks allowed per game – three fewer than any other Ivy school allowed.

Harris had a breakout 2021, finishing tied for third on the team with 45 tackles, adding an interception, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery. He was a big part of a defense that ranked fifth in the Ancient Eigh and in the top 50 nationally, allowing just 212.6 passing yards per game.

As a kick returner, Cunningham averaged 21.9 yards per return on 23 attempts in 10 contests. He brought back three kickoffs for 111 yards (37.0 yards per return) at Bucknell and averaged 23.0 yards on four kickoffs, including a season-long 49 yard return, against Brown. As a wide receiver, Cunningham posted seven catches for 19 yards.

At quarterback, Wang became the second freshman to lead Cornell in rushing (Luke Hagy) with his 349 yards and four touchdowns (5.5 yards per carry). Wang ranked seventh in the league in total offense in league games only and completed 26-of-40 passes for 304 yards and four touchdowns with four interceptions. Wang was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week after becoming the first Cornell freshman to throw and run for a touchdown in the same game in the win over Colgate.

The Big Red opens the 2022 season when it visits VMI on Saturday, Sept. 17 in Lexington, Va. Cornell opens its home slate when it kicks off the Ivy League season the following weekend against Yale on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Schoellkopf Field.
