Women's Soccer Returns Home Sunday to Host Villanova

ITHACA, N.Y. — After Thursday's loss at Niagara, the Cornell women's soccer team returns to Berman Field on Sunday for a non-conference contest against Villanova.

About the Big Red

• Cornell enters Sunday's contest with Villanova with an 0-3-0 record on the year, losing all three games by one-goal margins. Dating back to last season, the Big Red have lost its last five games by one goal.
 
• Senior forward Ashley Durik scored her second goal of the season on Thursday at Niagara, netting a penalty kick in the 84th minute. Durik's penalty kick goal was the program's first since Evanthia Spyredes scored in a 4-2 loss against Penn on Oct. 5, 2019.
 
• Durik has logged 10 shot attempts this season, nine of which have been on target.

• Niagara's Emma Davies scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute, aiding the host Purple Eagles to a 3-2 victory over Cornell in women's soccer action at Niagara Field on Thursday evening.

• Following Thursday's contests, Cornell has the highest shooting accuracy in the Ivy League with 52.3 percent of its shot attempts being on target. The team's 7.67 shots on goal per game is tied with Brown for third-highest amongst the eight-team league. Only Harvard and Princeton have higher averages (8.00).
 
• Durik and Gallman have been two of Cornell's most accurate shooters this season, as the duo have 14 shots on goal out of 19 combined attempts between the two, good for a .737 shooting percentage.

• Villanova enters Sunday's contest winless in its four games to open the 2022 season. The Wildcats have dropped contests to Boston College, 2-0 on Aug. 18, and Rider, 1-0 on Aug. 25.
• The pair of draws for Villanova came against Delaware, 1-1 on Aug. 21, and to Penn on Thursday, also 1-1.
• CiCi Fox has a team-leading three points (one goal, one assist), while Izzy Newton has the Wildcats' other goal this season.
• Megan McClay has made three starts for Villanova, logging a 1.33 goals against average and a .750 save percentage.

Series vs. Villanova

• Cornell and Villanova will be meeting for the fifth time in program history on Sunday.
• The teams are meeting for the second time in as many years as the Big Red fell to the Wildcats, 2-0, in Philadelphia last year.
• Sunday will be Villanova's first time playing in Ithaca since Oct. 25, 1998.
• The Big Red are seeking its first victory over Villanova since the first meeting between the programs back on Sept. 21, 1984.
