Field Hockey Secures Home and Ivy Opener over Dartmouth

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell field hockey team opened its home and Ivy slate of games with a win over Dartmouth, 3-1 on Friday, September 23. The Big Red (3-3, 1-0 Ivy League) were led by Caroline Ramsey, who net two goals, and Natalie Stone, who got Cornell in the scorebooks early in the contest.

The Big Red were quick to get on the score sheet when senior forward Natalie Stone finished a lose ball in front of the Dartmouth net. The Big Red tallied five shots in the first quarter alone, and held the Big Green at bay, allowing the team zero looks at goal.

In the second quarter, both teams fell into back-and-forth play, with both teams credited with a collective three shots while earning 10 fouls.

After halftime, Ramsey made her mark on the stat sheet, scoring just 6 minutes into the third quarter off of an attacking penalty corner. Claire Wolfe and Claire Jones earned assists for their help in the effort, Jones on the service and Wolfe as the stopper.

In the fourth, Ramsey put the exclamation point on the Cornell victory with less than five minutes remaining when a second attacking penalty corner was buried in the top right of the net behind the Dartmouth goalkeeper. Natalie Stone, the server, and Wolfe, the stopper, were both credited with the assists for the goal. The Big Green had a late goal to keep from being shut-out, but the Cornell effort kept the scoreline 3-1 in favor of the Big Red.
