Not Throwing Away Her Shots
•
Laken Gallman, through games played on Sept. 27, ranks seventh in the nation in shot accuracy with her .706 figure. Of Gallman's 17 shot attempts taken on the year, 12 have been on target.
• In her eight appearances with Cornell since transferring from the University of Tampa, a Division II school, Gallman has logged at least one shot attempt and one shot on goal in all but one match (Sept. 11 at Syracuse).
• Gallman is currently one of eight players in the Division I ranks with at least a .700 shooting accuracy. Sacred Heart's Morgan Bovardi, Lamar's Christine Kitaru, and Drexel's Annalena O'Reilly pace the nation with their .750 shooting accuracy. Northeastern's Vivian Akyirem and Oklahoma State's Gracie Bindbeutel are tied for fourth with a .739 figure. Northwestern's Josie Aulicino is the last player ahead of Gallman with a .720 shooting accuracy. Arkansas' Ava Tankersley (.700) is the only other player to have a figure at or above .700.
• The .700 shooting accuracy figure by Gallman leads the Ivy League and is 88 points higher than Brown's Ava Seelenfreund (21-of-34 — .618), who is tied for 36th nationally. Penn's Lauren Teuschl is right behind Seelenfreund with a .611 clip, ranking 39th in Division I.
Good Company
• Cornell is a member of one of the winningest conferences in Division I soccer this season. Through games played Sept. 28, the Ivy League ranks sixth of the 31 conferences that sponsor women's soccer.
• The Ivy League's .599 win percentage (35-21-15) is the second-highest win percentage of any non-Power Five conference, trailing the West Coast Conference (WCC), who is fifth overall with a .616 win percentage (42-20-33).
• Only the ACC (96-32-18 — .719), Pac-12 (65-19-22 - .717), SEC (92-38-20 — .680), Big Ten (77-41-31 — .621), and WCC have higher win percentages than the Ivy League.
Scouting the Quakers
• Penn enters this afternoon's match unbeaten in eight of its nine matches, posting a 2-1-6 record.
• The Quakers opened Ivy League play last weekend with a 1-1 draw to then-No. 16 Harvard at Rhodes Field last Saturday. Despite being outshot 26-8, Penn's defense held strong against the nationally-ranked Crimson. Sara Readinger scored her first goal of the season in the 58th minute, just 50 seconds after Harvard scored to make it a 1-0 contest. Laurence Gladu made four saves for the Quakers during her 90 minutes in goal.
• Sizzy Lawton, Lauren Teuschl, and Isobel Glass have combined for six of Penn's 10 goals, with each player having two goals on the season. Lawton leads the Quakers in points with seven (two goals and three assists).
• Gladu has started all of Penn's nine games this season, playing all but 22:33 in goal for the Quakers. She has a 1.03 goals-against average to go along with a .727 save percentage.
Series vs. Penn
• Cornell and Penn are playing for the 31st time this afternoon. After Cornell won the first six matches in the series between 1991 and 1996, Penn has had the upper-hand in the series, being unbeaten in 23 of its last 24 matches over the Big Red (20-1-3).
• The Big Red looks to snap its seven-game winless streak to the Quakers on Saturday, as Cornell has not defeated Penn since a 3-2 victory at Berman Field on Oct. 3, 2014.
• Over the Big Red's last seven matches against Penn, Cornell has only scored twice — both of which came in a 4-2 loss on Oct. 5, 2019. The Quakers have posted six clean sheets over its last eight matches against the Big Red.
Looking Ahead
• Cornell will play its final non-conference match of the 2022 campaign on Tuesday when it travels to Hamilton, N.Y., to play its Central New York rival Colgate. First touch from Beyer-Small '76 Field is slated for 7 p.m. Game action will be broadcast on ESPN+.
