#6 Women’s Squash Extends Win Streak, Defeats #9 Penn for First Time Since 2001-02

ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 6-ranked Cornell women's squash team increased its season-opening win streak to five games following its 6-3 victory over No. 9-ranked Penn at the Belkin Squash Courts on Friday afternoon.

Cornell (5-0, 1-0 Ivy) posted its first victory over Penn since Jan. 13, 2002, snapping a 25-match losing streak to the Quakers.

The Big Red is also off to its best start since also winning its first five games in the 2014-15 season.

Senior Sivasangari Subramaniam, who was awarded her national championship ring from departing athletic director Andy Noel prior to the match, posted a four-set victory over Malak Taha in her first match since winning the national individual championship last March.

Subramaniam, who now has a career record of 40-2, has won her last 19 matches in regular-season play dating back to 2019-20.

Aishwarya Khubchandani (No. 3) and Ananya Dabke (No. 4) each posted straight-set victories for the Big Red. Wen Li Lai (No. 2), Alysa Ali (No. 6), and Alexis Shatzman (No. 7) posted four-set victories.

Lai and Shatzman both fell in the opening set of their respective matches before winning the next three sets.

In the exhibition match at the No. 10 spot, McKenna Stoltz cruised past Emma Carter, 11-8, 11-5, 11-2.

Looking Ahead

Cornell returns to the court on Sunday when it travels to the Garden State to take on No. 4-ranked Princeton. The first group of matches from Jadwin Gymnasium is scheduled to begin at noon. Matches will be streamed live on Stretch Internet.
