#6 Women’s Squash Falls to #4 Princeton on Sunday

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 6-ranked Cornell women's squash team fell to No. 4-ranked Princeton, 7-2, in a battle of top-10 Ivy League programs at Jadwin Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.

Princeton (3-0, 2-0 Ivy) handed Cornell (5-1, 1-1 Ivy) its first loss of the season, while preventing the Big Red from recording its first-ever victory over the Tigers.

Senior Sivasangari Subramaniam increased her win streak to 20 matches following a four-set victory over Molly Chadwick in a match at the No. 1 position. Chadwick claimed the first set, 13-11, before Subramaniam controlled the remainder of the match, 11-6, 11-8, 11-9.

Junior Wen Li Lai also claimed a four-set victory over Liyen Teoh, who won the opening set, 11-5. Lai dominated the remainder of the match dropping 11 of the 44 points played, which included a pair of 11-2 victories in the final two sets.

Freshman Aishwarya Khubchandani fell in five sets to Andrea Toth at the No. 3 position. Khuchandani won the opening set, 14-12, before forcing a decisive fifth set with an 11-8 victory in the fourth. Toth posted an 11-4 victory in the fifth to claim the match.

Despite losing in straight sets, fellow freshman Alysa Ali battled in her against India Stephenson at the No. 6 spot. Ali forced a pair of sets to be played past the 11-point mark, 15-13 and 14-12.

Ania LaDow (No. 8) and Devon Shatzman (No. 9) each lost their respective matches in four sets.

Looking Ahead

Cornell will have a trio of matches next week when it plays Stanford on Thursday in Norwalk, Conn., at 6 p.m. The Big Red will remain in the Nutmeg State when it plays Trinity and Yale on Jan. 21 and 22, respectively.
