Miller Nets Clutch Goal To Lift Men's Soccer Over Binghamton, 2-1

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Cornell men's soccer team played Binghamton to a stunning 2-1 victory on Tuesday night from Bearcats Sports Complex. Senior defender Connor Drought and freshman mid-fielder Connor Miller put in their first goals of the season. Alex Harris and Balazs Feher extended their point-streaks to three games, helping on the Big Red goals. Cornell moved to 7-3-2, while Binghamton fell to 3-9-2.

Drought opened up the scoring in the 27th-minute, putting the Big Red in front mid-way through the first half. Cornell put heavy offensive pressure on the Bearcats in that half, winning the shots on goal advantage 5-0.

Binghamton answered early in the second half, when Cailen Thomas booted in a Bearcat goal from Jack Green, knotting the game at 1-1.

As time wound down, both squads searched for the right moment to strike on a go-ahead-goal. Around the 10-minute mark, Anthony Lazaridis of the Bearcats committed a crucial red card offense which would cause Binghamton to play a man-down. Ivy League points leader Harris and Drought took advantage as they found Miller cutting across the box for the game-winning-goal.

"I was really proud of the guys tonight. We created a number of good chances in the first half and should have come in at halftime with a greater lead", John Smith, the Dr. Daniel P. Wood Head Coach of Men's Soccer mentioned.

Coach Smith also said, "At 1-0 Binghamton was still in the game and they did well to tie things up. We responded well after their goal and deservedly found the winner through Connor". Miller's first goal of his Big Red career came at an opportune moment, as it was needed to lift the Big Red over Binghamton.
